My vet bill last month gave me a heart attack. Almost had one myself before my dog did. That's when I remembered Figo. Opened the Pet Cloud thing on my phone while sitting in the parking lot.
Never used it before. My friend recommended Figo months ago when I was complaining about how expensive everything is. You know, the usual. Vaccines, check-ups, that one time my dog ate a sock.
Let me just say. The portal is pretty smooth. Maybe too smooth. I kept waiting for something to glitch but it didn’t. Logged in using my pet’s tag number thing. Everything was right there.
Claims process took how long?
Submitted my claim. Uploaded the invoice. Took maybe four minutes. I was skeptical because nothing in life is that easy, right? Then I got an email two days later saying it was approved. TWO DAYS.
My friend with another insurance company waited almost a month. Ridiculous. Figo says most claims close within three working days and honestly, that matched my experience.
The Pet Cloud app has this live vet chat feature. Used it once when my dog was coughing weird at 11 PM. Got a response in like thirty seconds. They told me to monitor and sent some tips. Saved me an expensive emergency visit.
But here's the thing. Not everything is perfect.
The other side of Figo reviews
I went down a rabbit hole reading Trustpilot after signing up. Mixed bag for sure. Some people love it, some hate it. Figo has about 3.6 to 3.8 stars on most review sites which sounds about right to me.
One complaint kept popping up. People saying claims got denied because of pre-existing conditions. I read the fine print carefully when I signed up because I was paranoid. Figo doesn't cover pre-existing conditions like most insurers but they might cover curable ones if symptom-free for 12 months.
A lot of the negative reviews seemed frustrated about customer service response times. I haven't dealt with that personally. Called them once about billing and got through pretty fast. But maybe I just got lucky.
What insurance portal actually works
The dashboard shows everything. Deductible info, reimbursement percentage, how much annual coverage you have left. I picked the 90 percent reimbursement option with a 500 dollar deductible. Monthly premium for my dog is around 45 bucks.
Not cheap but also not crazy compared to others.

The app sends push notifications for claim status updates. That kept me from obsessively checking every hour. Also has reminders for vaccines which I desperately need because I always forget.
One thing I wish I knew earlier. Costco members get 15 percent off Figo policies. I found this out after signing up. Missed that discount. Kicking myself over it honestly.
Does unlimited coverage actually matter
I went with the 10k annual limit instead of unlimited. Felt like enough for my situation. But knowing unlimited exists gives me peace of mind if something catastrophic happens. Cancer treatments are expensive. Surgeries too.
Figo covers hereditary conditions without extra cost. That mattered for me because my breed has hip issues. Some companies charge extra for that.
Wait period was one day for accidents and 14 days for illnesses. That one day thing is faster than most. Lemonade has similar waiting periods but different coverage terms.
Real talk about reading the fine print
I messed up when I first signed up. Didn't add the wellness rider. So my routine checkup wasn't covered. Had to pay out of pocket for that. Learned my lesson and added it at renewal.
Vet exam fees aren't covered in the base plan unless you add that Powerup. Kind of annoying but at least they tell you upfront.
The Pet Cloud has this social feature to connect with other pet owners nearby. Seems weird. I haven't used it. Probably won't. But I guess some people like that.
Bottom line after six months
Would I recommend Figo? Yeah probably. The portal works. The app is fine. Claims actually get processed quickly unlike some horror stories I've heard about other companies.
But read everything carefully before signing. Understand what's covered and what isn't. Don't skip the fine print like I almost did.
My dog is healthy right now thank god. But when something happens I know the reimbursement will come through fast. That peace of mind alone is worth something.
